About Tamariu

What is Tamariu?

Tamariu is one of the three beaches that Palafrugell has, located in the Province of Girona. Tamariu is in the region of the Baix Empordà, the coast of which is known as "Costa Brava". It is a small beach that’s perfect to relax, play or practice your favorite water sports.

The name of Tamariu comes from the “tamarinds”, trees that used to grow on the Tamariu torrent. Some of the can still be seen in Tamariu. In its beginnings, Tamariu was a fisherman’s neighborhood described by Josep Plà as a “remote paradise” and “last essence of freedom”.

Tamariu is a cute place that has a very nice beach and some great views. From Tamariu you can get to some other paradise-like beaches in just some minutes (walking, by boat, or by car). Aigua Xelida, Cala Marquesa, La Pedrosa, El Cau or so many other places that are unforgettable are just some minutes away from Tamariu.

In Tamariu you can find a Dive base school. You can also rent little boats to go around the little beaches around Tamariu. In the beach itself you can rent Kayaks that will allow you to do excursions alone or by group around Tamariu.

Close to Tamariu, the towns of Calella, Llafranc and Begur, have a great deal of restaurants and other cool places to visit and have fun.

Sports and Culture in Tamariu

If you’re interested in the history and the culture of that Catalan Region, you can visit the medieval towns of Pals, Peratallada, Torroella de Montgrí and many others that have a big historical and architectonical interest.
